Gate Repair Across Dallas–Fort Worth

A gate that drags, sags, will not latch or has been hit by a vehicle does not have to be replaced. We diagnose the cause and repair the structure, hinges, posts and hardware.

Gates fail in predictable ways. Hinges wear. Posts lean as soil moves. Welds crack where a frame has flexed for years. A bottom rail rusts through where water collects. A vehicle clips a corner. The visible symptom is often a gate that drags or will not latch, but the cause is usually one of these underlying problems.

Good gate repair starts with finding the real cause. Tightening a latch will not fix a leaning post, and replacing hinges will not fix a twisted frame. We look at the whole system before proposing repairs.

This page covers repair of the gate structure itself: hinges, posts, alignment, latches and damaged or broken sections. For gate operator and opener problems, see automatic gates. For fence panel problems, see iron fence repair.

Why customers call

What typically goes wrong

Sagging and dragging
Usually caused by worn hinges, a leaning post or a frame that has racked out of square. The fix depends on which.
Latch will not catch
Misalignment from a shifted post or sagging gate is the common cause, not the latch itself.
Cracked or broken welds
Repeated stress, rust at joints or impact can open weld seams. These can often be re-welded and reinforced.
Rust and section damage
Bottom rails and post bases rust first. Where rust is localized, sections can be cut out and replaced.

Design, materials and finish

Repair approaches

  • Hinge and hardware replacement

New heavy-duty hinges, bearings, latches and drop rods often restore proper operation when the frame itself is sound.

  • Post straightening or resetting

Leaning posts can sometimes be corrected; in other cases they need to be reset or replaced with a stronger footing.

  • Frame repair and reinforcement

Racked or cracked frames are squared up, re-welded and braced to resist future movement.

  • Repair or replace

If a gate is badly corroded or structurally fatigued, replacement may cost less over time. We will tell you honestly which makes sense.

Repair or replace? A quick way to think about it

If the frame is straight and the metal is mostly sound, repair usually makes sense. Hinges, latches, posts and localized welds are all routinely repaired.

If the gate is severely rusted through the main members, twisted beyond practical correction, or too light for the opening it protects, putting more money into repair may only delay the inevitable. In those cases, we will discuss a replacement and how it could reuse sound posts or hardware. Describe the gate to us on the phone and we will help you decide.

How the work goes

A realistic project process

Project process

  1. Step 1

    Describe the problem

Call and tell us what the gate is doing: dragging, not closing, damaged, rusted, loose. Photos help.

  2. Step 2

    Diagnose the cause

We look at hinges, posts, frame alignment and welds to identify the underlying issue, not just the symptom.

  3. Step 3

    Agree on the repair scope

We explain what needs fixing, whether repair or replacement makes sense, and discuss scheduling.

  4. Step 4

    Repair and test

Repairs are completed on site where practical, or at the workshop for larger work, and the gate is tested for swing and latch.

Scope and pricing

What affects the scope and cost

Every project is different, so pricing depends on the details. These are the factors that shape the work.

  • Extent of structural damage
  • Whether posts need resetting or replacing
  • Hardware that must be replaced
  • Welding and metal replacement required
  • Whether work can be done on site or requires the workshop
  • Access to the gate and ground conditions

Questions

Gate Repair: common questions

Gate Repair: common questions
Why does my gate drag on the ground?

The usual causes are worn hinges, a leaning post or a frame that has twisted out of square. Identifying which one decides whether the fix is a hinge swap, a post correction or frame repair.

Can a gate bent by a vehicle be straightened?

Often yes, when the metal has bent rather than torn. Severely damaged sections may need to be cut out and replaced. Photos help us give guidance on the phone.

Do you repair gates you did not install?

Yes. We work on gates of many types and ages, whoever built them.

Can you fix a gate on site?

Many repairs can be done at your property. Larger structural work may need the gate taken to the workshop.

My gate opener is not working. Is that a gate repair?

Operator problems are covered on our automatic gates page. If the gate itself is binding or misaligned, that can also cause operator problems, so both may need attention.
