Long run of black ornamental steel fence panels with spear-top pickets along a sloping green lawn

Iron fencing, often called wrought iron fencing, is a long-lasting way to secure a yard, mark a boundary or frame a front entry while keeping the view open. Today, most iron-style fences are fabricated from steel or aluminum. Both can look the part when properly finished, and we will explain which suits your goals.

A fence is more than its panels. Post spacing, footing depth, how the fence follows a slope, and where gates go all decide whether it looks crisp and stays straight for years. We plan these details before installation so the finished line looks deliberate.

If your fence is already standing and needs fixing, see iron fence repair. If you want a matching gate, our custom iron gates and pedestrian gates pages cover those.

Why customers call

Why customers choose iron fencing

Durability
Properly finished steel or aluminum fencing resists the pushing, climbing and weather that wear out other fence types.
Security with visibility
Open pickets keep sightlines clear, which many property owners prefer for safety.
Curb appeal
A clean black or bronze fence adds definition to a lawn and entry.
Replacing a failing fence
Rotted wood, leaning chain link or old rusted panels can be replaced with something that lasts longer.

Design, materials and finish

Panel, material and finish options

  • Steel or aluminum

Steel is stronger and suits security fencing. Aluminum resists corrosion and is lighter, a good fit for many residential uses.

  • Picket style

Flat top is clean and modern. Spear top and decorative finials add classic detail and a more secure profile.

  • Height and spacing

Height and picket spacing depend on purpose, whether privacy, pet containment, pool safety or security.

  • Finish

Powder coat and paint systems in black, bronze and custom colors. Finish quality largely determines how long the fence looks good.

Slopes, steps and long runs

North Texas yards are rarely perfectly flat. Fence panels can be racked to follow gentle slopes, or stepped down in sections where the grade changes more. Which approach is used affects both appearance and cost. Long runs also need thought about expansion, gate placement, and where the fence meets walls or existing structures. A few photos along the proposed fence line make the first conversation far more productive.

How the work goes

A realistic project process

Project process

  1. Step 1

    Describe the fence line

Call to discuss length, purpose, height, slopes and any gates or corners.

  2. Step 2

    Confirm layout and scope

Post locations, panel style, gate locations and finish are reviewed. Property lines, utilities and any HOA or approval needs are your responsibility to confirm for your address, and we are glad to discuss them.

  3. Step 3

Fabricate or order panels and posts

Components are prepared and finished to the agreed design.

  4. Step 4

    Install and finish the line

Posts are set, panels and gates are installed, and the line is checked for plumb and alignment.

Scope and pricing

What affects the scope and cost

Every project is different, so pricing depends on the details. These are the factors that shape the work.

  • Total length and number of corners
  • Fence height and picket style
  • Steel or aluminum construction
  • Slope and soil conditions
  • Number and type of gates
  • Removal of an existing fence

Questions

Iron Fence Installation: common questions

Iron Fence Installation: common questions
Is iron fencing the same as wrought iron?

The term is used loosely. Most modern iron-style fencing is fabricated from steel or aluminum. We describe the actual material for your project.

Steel or aluminum fencing, which is better?

Steel is stronger and often chosen for security. Aluminum does not rust and works well for many residential applications. The best choice depends on use and budget.

Can you remove my old fence?

Removal of an existing fence can often be included in the scope. Describe the existing fence when you call.

Will my HOA allow an iron fence?

HOAs and municipalities set their own rules. Check your guidelines and we can discuss designs that suit them.

Can the fence include a gate for my driveway?

Yes. Pedestrian and vehicle gates can be designed to match the fence. See our driveway gates and pedestrian gates pages.
