A good railing does three things: it keeps people safe, it feels solid in the hand, and it looks like it belongs. Achieving all three depends on the right dimensions, secure anchoring and a finish that holds up. Exterior railings face Texas sun and storms, while interior railings are judged up close, so detail matters more.

We fabricate stair railings, handrails, porch and balcony railings, deck and patio guards and landing rails, in traditional wrought iron style or in clean modern profiles. We also repair existing railings that have become loose, rusted or damaged.

For stair structure itself, see metal stairs. For one-off decorative railing designs, see ornamental ironwork.

Railings and guards are safety components. Dimensions, loading, anchoring, design coordination and applicable approvals are reviewed for the specific job. We do not assume that one design suits every location.

Why customers call

Why customers need railing work

Safety on steps and drops
Stairs, raised decks and balconies need a handrail or guard. Existing ones may be missing or loose.
Loose or unstable railings
Corroded anchors and worn posts make railings wobble. Re-anchoring or replacing them restores confidence.
Outdated or damaged railings
Rust and broken sections can often be repaired. When they cannot, replacement can transform an entry.
New construction or renovation
Remodels, additions and new decks all need railings designed for the structure.

Design, materials and finish

Design, material and mounting choices

  • Profile

Round or square balusters, flat bar, twisted or scrolled elements, cable infill or glass-pairing frames.

  • Handrail shape

Round, flat or wrapped profiles that are comfortable to grip. Handrail height and grip suit how the railing is used.

  • Mounting

Surface-mounted base plates, core-drilled posts in concrete, or side-mounted on walls. Each has implications for strength and appearance.

  • Material and finish

Steel with a durable exterior finish, or aluminum for lighter corrosion-resistant applications.

Anchoring matters more than the design

A railing is only as strong as what it is attached to. Rotted wood, cracked concrete and loose masonry can undermine even a well-built railing. Part of planning is assessing what the posts will fix to and whether that substrate is sound. If it is not, that needs to be addressed first. We would rather say so at the start than install something that looks right and feels wrong.

How the work goes

A realistic project process

Project process

  1. Step 1

    Describe the location and use

Call to discuss where the railing goes, approximate length, stair or level run, and indoor or outdoor.

  2. Step 2

    Review requirements and dimensions

Heights, spacing, anchoring conditions and any applicable approvals are reviewed for the specific job.

  3. Step 3

    Fabricate and finish

The railing is fabricated to measured dimensions and finished for its environment.

  4. Step 4

    Install and check

Posts are anchored and aligned, and the finished railing is checked for firmness and fit.

Scope and pricing

What affects the scope and cost

Every project is different, so pricing depends on the details. These are the factors that shape the work.

  • Total length and number of posts
  • Stair, balcony or level-run configuration
  • Infill design and complexity
  • Mounting surface and anchoring method
  • Material and finish
  • Removal of an existing railing

Questions

Railings & Handrails: common questions

Railings & Handrails: common questions
Do you install interior as well as exterior railings?

Yes. Interior stair rails and balustrades are fabricated to a finer standard of finish, while exterior rails are built and coated for weather.

Can you repair a loose railing instead of replacing it?

Often. Re-anchoring, replacing corroded base plates and welding failed joints can restore a railing in many cases.

Will my railing meet code?

Requirements depend on the property, structure and jurisdiction. We review dimensions, loading and applicable approvals for each job and do not promise that any one design meets every code.

Can railings be made for a deck or balcony I just built?

Yes. We can fabricate railings to suit the dimensions and structure of new or existing decks and balconies.

Do you offer cable or modern railings?

We can discuss modern profiles and infill styles. Describe the look you want when you call.
