Narrow black steel walk gate with an arched top set in a short stone wall beside a garden path

Pedestrian gates get used more than almost any other piece of metalwork on a property. They are opened with groceries in hand, slammed shut by kids and left open by guests. A good walk gate shrugs this off. A poor one drags on the ground, rattles and fails to latch.

We fabricate pedestrian gates in widths from narrow side passages to wider garden entries, in designs that match a fence or stand alone as a feature. Self-closing hinges and self-latching hardware are common requests for pool areas and shared spaces.

If you need a gate at a driveway for vehicles, see driveway gates. This page is for gates that people walk through.

Why customers call

When a pedestrian gate is the right solution

You need access without opening the big gate
A separate walk gate means you do not have to open a heavy driveway gate every time someone walks through.
A fence has a gap
Open side yards and unfinished fence runs often just need a gate and a few posts to become secure.
The existing gate is sagging or poorly hung
Replacing a worn gate with a properly built frame solves dragging, latch misalignment and stiff swing.
Pool or play-area safety
Self-closing and self-latching hardware helps keep a gate shut behind each user.

Design, materials and finish

Design and hardware choices

  • Width and height

Standard walk gates suit most paths. Wider gates can accommodate wheelbarrows, strollers or equipment.

  • Top profile

Flat tops are clean and modern. Arched tops and decorative finials give a traditional feel.

  • Self-closing and self-latching hardware

Spring or hydraulic hinges close the gate automatically. Magnetic or mechanical latches secure it on closing.

  • Locks and privacy

Keyed, keypad or simple latch options are available. Slatted or solid infill adds privacy.

Small gates, big structural demands

A walk gate is small, but its posts take the full leverage of the gate swinging and being pushed open. Posts that are too light or set too shallow lean over time and cause latch problems. We pay attention to post size and footing depth as much as the gate itself.

How the work goes

A realistic project process

Project process

  1. Step 1

    Call and describe the opening

Tell us where the gate will go, approximate width, and whether it joins an existing fence or wall.

  2. Step 2

    Choose design and hardware

We help match the design to your fence and select hinges and latches for how the gate will be used.

  3. Step 3

    Fabricate to the opening

The gate and any new posts are fabricated and finished to confirmed dimensions.

  4. Step 4

    Install and test the latch

The gate is hung level, swing and closing are checked, and the latch is aligned.

Scope and pricing

What affects the scope and cost

Every project is different, so pricing depends on the details. These are the factors that shape the work.

  • Gate width and height
  • Design complexity and infill style
  • Whether new posts and footings are needed
  • Self-closing and locking hardware
  • Matching an existing fence finish
