Welder in a helmet, leather jacket and gloves welding a gate hinge at a residential driveway beside a service truck

Many welding jobs are impractical to move. A gate set in concrete, a fence run along a property line, a railing bolted to a stair or a piece of equipment too big to transport all need the welder to travel. Mobile welding brings the equipment and skills to your location.

On-site work is well suited to repair, adjustment and modest fabrication: re-welding cracked joints, reattaching hinges, reinforcing posts, fixing railings and making brackets and fittings fitted to the spot. Larger or more complex projects are often better built in the workshop and installed afterwards.

This page is about welding at your property. For repair across metal items in general, see welding and metal repair. For custom pieces built from scratch, see custom metal fabrication.

Why customers call

Why customers call a mobile welder

The item cannot be moved
Installed gates, fences, stairs and structural steel have to be repaired where they stand.
Avoiding downtime
Fixing it on site means a gate can be secured or equipment put back to work without hauling.
Small jobs that do not merit a shop trip
A cracked hinge or a failed bracket is often a quick on-site fix.
Fitting to existing conditions
On-site welding lets parts be fitted and adjusted to the real situation.

Design, materials and finish

What can and cannot be done on site

  • Well suited to on-site

Repairs, re-welding, reinforcement, bracket and hinge work, and modest additions.

  • Better in the workshop

Large new fabrications, complex finishing, and work that needs controlled conditions.

  • Materials

Mild steel is the most common on-site material. Other metals may require different methods or workshop work.

  • Finishing after welding

Welds are ground and primed or painted to protect the metal. Full refinishing may be separate work.

Safe working at your property

Welding produces sparks and heat. We keep flammable materials in mind, and we ask you to tell us about nearby mulch, dry grass, fuel, vehicles or other hazards when you call. Protective equipment and fire-safe practices are part of how the work is done at your property.

How the work goes

A realistic project process

Project process

  1. Step 1

    Describe the repair or task

Call and explain what needs welding, where it is and what the metal is. Photos help.

  2. Step 2

    Decide on site or workshop

We discuss whether the work is practical on site and agree on scope and scheduling.

  3. Step 3

    Weld at your property

Repairs are completed with attention to fire safety and clean-up.

  4. Step 4

Grind, prime and finish the repair

Welds are cleaned up and protected so the repair lasts.

Scope and pricing

What affects the scope and cost

Every project is different, so pricing depends on the details. These are the factors that shape the work.

  • Amount of welding and material required
  • Access to the work area
  • Type of metal
  • Need for grinding, priming or painting
  • Distance and scheduling
